Recipes

Here are a few of my favorite things to do with fruits and vegetables grown in my garden.  I’m no chef, but I do like to eat and the family, well, they sort of expect it, actually.  And while I don’t usually think about dinner until about an hour before it’s time to serve, I’ve made a wealth of progress in this area.  Harvest in hand, I’m looking for ways to prepare food these days!  Otherwise, it will rot, and I refuse to give my compost pile the satisfaction.

So use the excitement gained from growing your own food and take your bounty to the kitchen.  Get creative!  Or do like I do and call your friends and family – preferably those who tend to excel in this department – and get recipe ideas from them.  But be wary.  Some of them will alter the ingredients ever so slightly, so your dish won’t turn out as perfectly “delish” as theirs – my mother is famous for this trick, though she claims it is I who isn’t following her directions, exactly as written.  As if they were written!  I take diligent notes when she dictates, but what the heck does a “dash” mean, or “to taste?”  Who’s taste?  Mine?  Or that of the original chef?  The woman can’t eat the first okra without a sprinkle of salt…  Me, I avoid the stuff altogether, if I can, though it does make a fast food french fry irresistible.

Whatever your preference, get cooking and enjoy the fruits of your labor.  You deserve it!
